The Government claims that he must have got bTB in New Zealand in 2015, despite the fact that the farm he came from has been accredited as being bTB free for over 10 years and Geronimo passed numerous tests before he came to the UK.  On his arrival in the UK, Geronimo was tested twice more, each time being primed with tuberculin (the bacteria that causes bTB) and on each of those tests he tested positive for antibodies to bTB.  The fact that he had been exposed to tuberculin on multiple occasions prior to those tests meant it was not surprising that Geronimo tested positive to antibodies: as a healthy alpaca, it would only be natural that he would generate antibodies in response to repeated exposure to tuberculin.  <\/p><p> The Government has admitted that it has not done any research on the effects of multiple priming with tuberculin on the effectiveness of their bTB test, let alone its impact on camelids such as Geronimo. The developer of the test has himself called the results in question, as have many well regarded vets. All we want the Government to do is to re-test Geronimo without multiple priming and lift the threat of slaughter and allow Geronimo\u2019e life to be spared for research. It cannot be in anyone\u2019s interests to continue to sweep this scandal under the carpet.
